2025 Heat Relief for Arizona: Stay Safe and Cool! 🌡☀️🏜

As temperatures continue to rise in Arizona, it's crucial to stay informed and prepare for extreme heat, especially for those experiencing homelessness. Here are some key facts and heat relief information to help you navigate the scorching summer months:

Key Facts:

Current Heat Records for 2025:

Arizona has already seen some record-breaking temperatures in 2025. On March 24, Phoenix broke a 35-year-old daily heat record by reaching 96 degrees. The previous record was 95 degrees, set in 1990. Just a day later, on March 25, Phoenix hit 99 degrees, breaking the previous daily record of 96 degrees from 2022. This is significantly higher than the average temperature for this time of year, which is around 81 degrees.

Heat-Related Illnesses:

Heat-related illnesses and emergency room visits are on the rise. In Maricopa County, heat-related deaths decreased slightly in 2024, but the numbers remain high. Most heat deaths occur outdoors, with a significant percentage among people experiencing homelessness.

Heat Relief Information for the Homeless:

Cooling Centers: Maricopa County has expanded the number of cooling centers and extended their hours. Some centers are now open overnight to provide continuous relief. These centers offer water, air conditioning, and a safe place to escape the heat.

Heat Relief Network: The Heat Relief Network, coordinated by the Maricopa Association of Governments, provides water, cooling, and donation sites throughout the Valley. The network aims to prevent heat-related illnesses and deaths among vulnerable populations, including those experiencing homelessness.

24-Hour Heat Respite Sites: Phoenix has opened 24-hour heat respite sites and extended hours at other heat relief sites. These sites saw more than 28,000 visits last summer and helped secure shelter or permanent housing for over 800 people experienced homelessness.

Tips for Staying Safe:

1. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of WATER throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty.

2. Limit Outdoor Activities: Avoid strenuous activities during peak heat hours (10am10 a4pm).4 p. Use Cooling Centers: Take advantage of

AZFH at the Maricopa County Veterans Standdown

AZFH recently participated in the Maricopa County Veterans Standdown, held on March 13th and 14th at the fairgrounds in Phoenix, AZ. We were honored to be a part of this amazing event, helping many of our homeless veterans and veterans in transitional housing.

We are incredibly proud of all the many non-profit organizations that provide for those less fortunate in our community. It was an honor to serve our community together. Special thanks to Arizona Housing Coalition and Arizona Veterans StandDown Alliance for organizing and providing the event space.

AZFH's small but mighty non-profit organization coordinated efforts with the men's and women's clothing closet to provide 81 cases of mostly new clothing, hygiene items, blankets, and towels. We also provided 8 bikes, including 2 E-bikes, which went to our veterans without housing, offering much-needed transportation so they can reach the services they need to transition out of homelessness.

Our snack and candy bags contained 197 cases of food. In all, over the past two months of coordination of clothing, supplies, purchasing supplies, and making the snack bags, our little organization provided 286 cases of supplies weighing 3520lbs to our veteran community.

We would like to thank our Gift-In-Kind donors who provided some of the much-needed supplies for this event. Special thanks to Midwest Food Bank Arizona for helping with food and hygiene, Stardust Building Supplies for the new clothing and hygiene, Project Helping for the blankets and hygiene kits, Sock Club for the new socks, ACTS Homeless Ministry for all the bikes and E-bikes, and Las Sendas Elementary School for the beautiful hand-made notes filled with love and kindness.

It takes many organizations working together to provide for those in need, and we are grateful for each of your partnerships as we cannot help those in need without your support.

We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our monetary supporters. Every contribution helps those less fortunate, from donors who give $5 per month to those who give thousands. Every penny counts and goes to those in need. Your contributions help us cover many operational expenses, including purchasing food, bags, boxes, and other packing materials, fuel for our volunteer vehicles, storage rent, and transit tickets, just to name a few. While much of our food and supplies are donated, we rely on your generous financial contributions to get these supplies into our community. We would also like to thank Walmart for their generous community grants that make these kinds of outreach events possible.

One of our grateful bike recipients stated that he was starting a new job, and the bike and cart he won during our free raffle would greatly help him succeed by providing much-needed transportation. He also mentioned that he never wins anything, so seeing the smile on his face and how winning the bike uplifted his spirits made all the hard work and efforts worthwhile.

Working this event, it is evident that the growing need for affordable housing is crucial in the great state of Arizona. Not only for our veterans but for all the families and homeless individuals in need of stable housing. Everyone deserves safe shelter and food, along with our love and compassion. No one is beyond restoration!

AZFH Angel Springs Village and Angel Springs Food Pantry is our ultimate goal! With your help, we can provide affordable housing for those transitioning out of homelessness with permanent affordable housing and food to support the needs of our community. We are looking for partnerships with local non-profits and businesses to bring this dream to reality and help us build a better future for this underserved community. Together, we can build a community that cares for each other, regardless of social status.

Thank you to each of you who played a role and our volunteers for giving back to our community. It will take each of us acting individually and coming together in unity with all the great organizations to put an end to homelessness in Arizona and our country. Each of us has the ability to make a positive difference in the lives of our neighbors. Together, we are stronger, and we can create a better tomorrow in the lives around us.
