🚲Arizona's Family to the Homeless is proud to partner with @actshomelessministry to provide bikes to our neighbors in need. Recently, we had the opportunity to give a bike to a client from our Mobile Food Pantry. This bike will provide him with essential transportation to work, helping him stay employed and housed. 🏠

Bikes play a crucial role in our community by offering much-needed transportation, ensuring our neighbors can maintain their employment and stability. Together, we are making a difference, one bike at a time.💙

Help us continue this vital work! Your donations can make a significant impact by providing more bikes to those in need. Monetary donations help us repair bikes and provide locks for our recipients. We want to ensure our clients have many years of use and that the bikes we give are safe and in usable condition. Visit our website to donate and support our mission. Every contribution counts. 🙏

The Reality of Hunger in Arizona: Food Insecurity Among the Working Poor
Food insecurity is an ever-growing reality for many families in Arizona, particularly those living at or below the current poverty levels. With rising inflation, families often face the difficult choice between housing and food. This article explores the challenges faced by the working poor in Arizona, highlighting the impact of inflation on their daily lives.

Rising Inflation and Its Impact
Inflation in Arizona has been higher than the national average, with the Consumer Price Index for the Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale area increasing by 1.8% over the past year. This rise in inflation has led to higher costs for essential goods and services, including food, housing, and transportation. Families are struggling to keep up with these rising costs, often having to make tough decisions about where to allocate their limited resources.

Housing Costs
Housing costs in Arizona have seen a significant increase, with the median home price reaching $455,100 in February 2025. Rent prices have also risen, with the median rent for a one-bedroom apartment at $1,047 and a two-bedroom apartment at $1,251. These rising housing costs put a strain on families' budgets, forcing them to choose between paying for shelter or buying food.

Food Costs
The average Arizona household spends approximately $272 on groceries each week, which is slightly higher than the national average. Food prices have risen by almost 25% since 2020, making it increasingly difficult for families to afford nutritious meals. The rising cost of groceries, combined with other expenses, leaves many families facing food insecurity.

Transportation Costs
Transportation costs in Arizona are also on the rise. The average price per gallon of regular gas is $3.67, compared to the national average of $3.46. Additionally, the average annual transportation costs for a family can range from $5,316 to $15,073. These expenses further strain the budgets of working poor families, making it harder for them to afford other necessities.

The Hard Choices Families Face
With incomes not keeping up with the rising costs of living, families in Arizona are often forced to make difficult choices. Many must decide whether to pay for housing or buy food, leading to increased food insecurity. The working poor are particularly vulnerable, as their limited incomes make it challenging to cover all essential expenses.

Arizona's Family to the Homeless: Bridging the Gap
Arizona's Family to the Homeless (AZFH) is working tirelessly to meet the increased demand for assistance among families facing food insecurity. To help bridge the gap, AZFH holds a Mobile Food Pantry twice per month, providing essential items such as food, clothing, hygiene products, and other necessities free of charge. However, as the need for these services continues to rise, AZFH also faces increasing expenses to keep up with the demand.

Call to Action: Support AZFH
To continue providing vital support to those in need, AZFH relies on the generosity of the community. Businesses and individuals can make a significant impact by contributing in various ways:

Monthly Donations: Setting up recurring donations helps ensure consistent support for AZFH's programs.
Corporate Sponsorships: Businesses can sponsor events or programs, providing essential resources for outreach efforts.
In-Kind Donations: Donations of food, hygiene products, clothing, and other essentials directly benefit those in need.
Volunteer Engagement: Encouraging employees to volunteer at AZFH events fosters community spirit and team building.
Fundraising Events: Hosting fundraising events within your organization can raise funds to support AZFH's mission.
By supporting AZFH, you can help ensure that families in Arizona have access to the basic necessities of life. Together, we can make a difference and combat food insecurity in our community.

AZFH Homeless Outreach Update - 3/29/2025

This past weekend, our AZFH Homeless Outreach Team, in collaboration with Phoenix Restoration Church, had the privilege of serving our homeless community in Phoenix, AZ. Together, we distributed 224 Angel Hope Packs, each containing a complete shelf stable meal, hygiene products, socks, beverages, and we also gave away new clothing.

During our outreach, we had meaningful conversations with several of our unsheltered friends about their rehab experiences and housing situations. One guest shared a particular heartbreaking story: after completing a 30-day rehab program, he was released back to the streets due to lack of permanent shelter placements. Unfortunately, without stable housing, he relapsed into drug use, finding himself back in the same environment with easy access to drugs and the same people he was using with before.

This struggle is one we encounter all too often. The shortage of shelter beds and affordable housing solutions makes it incredibly challenging for individuals to maintain sobriety while living on the streets.

Here are some sobering statistics:

In January 2024, approximately 770,000 people experienced homelessness on a single night in the U.S., an 18% increase from the previous year.

Nearly 36% of people experiencing homelessness were unsheltered, living in places not meant for human habitation.

The U.S. is currently short 7.3 million affordable rental homes.

Relapse rates for individuals recovering from substance use disorders are estimated to be between 40-60%.

In 2024, over 93% of people who needed substance use treatment did not receive it.

We remain committed to advocating for more resources and support for our homeless community. To continue our work and expand our reach, we currently need monetary donations. We are currently raising funds to obtain a van, which will allow us to increase our outreach efforts and better serve those in need. In addition to funding a van, AZFH is developing plans for AZFH Angel Hope Springs Village to help address the gap in affordable housing.

Please consider donating to support our mission. No donation is too small or too big; every penny counts. We depend on our monthly donors to fund the majority of our mission. Every contribution makes a significant difference.

Donations can be made on our Facebook page or our website at:

Thank you to everyone who joined us and continues to support our mission. Together, we can make a difference.
