A Life Saved in the Final Moments: Outreach on May 28, 2026

On May 28, 2026, Arizona’s Family to the Homeless (AZFH), alongside our partners at PRC, was back in the community doing what we are called to do—serving with compassion, dignity, and without judgment.

This outreach was, in many ways, typical of our weekly efforts. Our teams distributed over 70 meal kits, along with socks, underwear, heat relief supplies, water, sports drinks, electrolyte packets, and Narcan. In total, AZFH provided 159 bottles of life-saving hydration, bringing the combined total with PRC to 239 bottles distributed that evening.

We spent hours meeting immediate needs, connecting with individuals, and watching for those who might be ready to take the next step toward restoration.

As the evening came to a close, our teams packed up. The vehicles were loaded. Engines were running. We had nearly pulled away.

Then everything changed.

A woman in the community—whom we will call Ms. C for privacy—suddenly overdosed.

In that critical moment, there was no Narcan immediately available nearby, even though we had distributed all we brought earlier in the outreach. Another individual desperately tried to find help as she became unresponsive.

But by God’s grace, the AZFH team always carries emergency Narcan in our vehicles.

We rushed into action.

It took four doses of Narcan to revive her.

Slowly, she began to return. Disoriented. Confused. Unaware of what had just happened.

Our team stabilized her and gently explained that she had overdosed. The PRC team compassionately offered her a path to recovery, even presenting the opportunity to enter a recovery home.

For a moment, she considered it.

But in the end, she declined and walked away.

Situations like this weigh heavily on our hearts. We know that until someone is ready, there is only so much we can do. Addiction continues to devastate lives across our state, and we witness that reality every single week.

And still—we show up.

Because for every person not ready, there is someone who is.

For every life slipping deeper into darkness, there is another choosing restoration.

Those are the moments that keep us going.

It is an honor to serve.
It is a privilege to stand in these moments.
And we remain grateful—for every life saved, every step forward taken, and every opportunity to walk alongside those seeking a new beginning.
